Apartment ProgramThe Community Living Services Apartment Program consists of individual apartment sites located throughout Nassau County. AHRC Nassau provides both Supportive and Supervised apartment living. Our Supportive sites house individuals’ who are capable of independent living with minimal supports. Our Supervised sites house individuals, who although capable of independent living, are afforded enhanced supports due to varying reasons. The individuals’ who reside in our apartment program are gainfully employed, work at one of our many hub site locations or attend day programming.
Each Apartment site has a Manager, an Assistant Manager and a team of Direct Support staff. The management and direct support professionals that work in the apartment program are provided extensive training which includes, but is not limited to, first aid, fire safety, CPR, incident reporting, etc. The manager is able to provide constancy for the site as well as facilitate a strong relationship with the individuals residing and their families. Each apartment cluster is supervised by a Program Coordinator that visits each apartment site weekly or as needed. The Supervised apartment sites are staffed 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
All the apartments are well maintained. AHRC Nassau has its own maintenance team that addresses any issues needing repair or modification. Our Board of Directors visit our apartments frequently to ensure an optimal living environment is maintained. Each apartment site has two vehicles which allow the staff to provide transportation to all medical appointments as well as many recreational activities such as dances, bowling, movies, fairs, religious services, etc.
Our Apartments, Co-op’s and Supportive HUD houses are located within clusters to ensure that optimal staff oversight is afforded to all persons residing with us. All individuals’ are 21 years of age or older. AHRC’s apartment program has a diverse culture of individuals’ that include married couples, engaged couples, single people and individuals’ who hold valid driver’s licenses. The apartment program is designed to meet the needs of these independent individuals, affording them the tools necessary to further their independence and be productive members of society. As in our IRA homes the apartment program also fosters community involvement and integration. We have an R.N. on call, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, as well as an Administrator on Call. Kathryn Jussen, Assistant Director
