Camp Loyaltown's History

Camp Loyaltown is leased to the AHRC Nassau for one dollar annually.  This has been made possible by the generosity and warm understanding of the Board of Directors of Camp Loyaltown,Inc., a philanthropic organization. In addition to its generosity, the Camp Loyaltown, Inc., Board of Directors also conducts its own fund raising to support AHRC Nassau County Chapter and provide important help in the maintenance of Camp Loyaltown AHRC.

AHRC, founded in 1949 by a group of parents who were determined to find an alternative to sending their children with developmental disabilities away to an institution, is a nonprofit, membership organization.  There are over 9,800 members in the chapter and in 14 local auxiliaries.  AHRC provides comprehensive community based programs and services through out Nassau daily to 3,000 children and adults with intellecual and other developmental disabilities and their families.

In addition to Camp Loyaltown, the Family Support Services Department provides Residential Habilitation services and recreational programs that include social opportunities and Special Olympics training clubs.
