Foundation Walkathon

The Annual Foundation Walkathon attracts 300-400 walkers each year from local schools, colleges and families and friends of AHRC Nassau. The Walkathon, held this year on Sunday, November 1st at Eisenhower Park, Field #6A at 10 a.m. promises to be another successful fundraiser with KJOY FM's Lucky the Duck and Drive Time DJ Bill Edwards serving as Grand Marshal.

Walkers raising $100 or more could win 10 tickets to a screening of the anticipated mega-hit movie, New Moon! Walkers/team captains will have their names entered in a raffle drawing; winner need not be present.

Today, 1 out of every 150 babies born is diagnosed with autism. It has been proven that children with autism benefit greatly from one-to-one instruction enabling them to learn new skills and maintain skills acquisition. In 2002, recognizing the need for a more intensive education with a smaller staff to student ratio, AHRC Nassau redirected its educational programming for children with autism. The Children's Education Center's Autism Program now serves a total of 48 preschool and school age children in both Sea Cliff and Brookville.

A group of dedicated parents and friends called Friends of Nassau AHRC Autism Program has come together with a mission to raise the necessary funds to achieve and maintain a level of excellence to ensure that our children will reach their fullest potential. In support of this effort the Autism Reach for the Stars dinner is held annually.

The Annual Rose Ball held each year in June since 1950 is AHRC's largest fundraiser and is attended yearly by over 800 guests, including AHRC family members, as well as the Long Island corporate community.  The event supports programs and services for children and adults with intellectual and other developmental disabilities.

More than 200 guests are expected to taste a selection of wines from well-known and local vineyards, and to experience signature dishes from fine Long Island restaurants at the first ever Tantalizing Tastes, hosted by the Friends of the Fay J. Lindner Center for Autism and Developmental Disabilities.  Funds raised will benefit the Center for Autism,  a state of the art program serving individuals and families impacted by autism, throughout their lifespan. The Center is an affiliate of AHRC Nassau and the North Shore-LIJ Health System. Tantalizing Tastes will be held on Thursday, July 23, 2009 from 6-10 pm at the Brookville Country Club.
