On January 20, join people supported, self-advocates, families, staff, and friends for the 41st Annual MLK Commission March and Commemorative Program, organized by the City of Glen Cove and Glen Cove City School District.
For the past eight years, AHRC Nassau has proudly partnered in this annual event, typically marching with 75-100 supporters behind the AHRC Nassau banner. Recognized as the longest-running continuous MLK celebration of its kind in the nation, this event honors the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. by inspiring the community to engage in meaningful acts of service. Organized by the MLK Commission, this is your opportunity to transform MLK Day into a “day on” rather than a day off — embracing Dr. King’s vision of dignity, equality and fundamental rights for all.
Following the march, the commemorative program will begin at 9:15 a.m. at Finley Middle School and will feature Quality Assurance Trainer and Self-Advocate Michelle Rudoff.
The event also launches AHRC Nassau’s yearlong initiative to combat food insecurity across Long Island, a critical issue impacting an ever-growing number of individuals and families in our communities. Through this initiative, volunteers will collaborate with local partners to provide essential food assistance to those in need. Attendees are encouraged to bring non-perishable food items to the table organized by AHRC volunteers. All donations will go to Nosh Delivers, a Glen Cove-based food pantry.
This project is made possible through an inclusive volunteering grant from The Arc of the United States and AmeriCorps, the federal agency leading the Martin Luther King, Jr. Day of Service.
