Inside the New York State Capitol building, AHRC Nassau advocates added their voices for increased investment in services and staff at a Feb. 13 rally organized by the New York Disability Advocates (NYDA).

For Coleen Mackin, AHRC Quality Assurance Trainer, the rally was an important way to show the urgency of these critical issues.

“It’s important to me to use my voice to support DSPs to get the raise they deserve,” said Coleen. “Without great support, we wouldn’t be where we are today in terms of disability supports. All our community, together, should use our voices. All the letters and phone calls help. The rally is one of the ways we do this, too.”

Many felt the call to action to advocate, like Danielle Boben, an Assistant Manager of Martin Place, Syosset IRA, has worked in AHRC’s Residential Services for almost 20 years. Danielle made the trip to Albany with Kenny Smith and Matt Hofele, while Derrell Dorch and Latoya Kerr, DSPs in AHRC Day Services, were in attendance with John Buley Neumar, Vladamir Noel and Tuvia Neftali. See a gallery of Day Services’ time at the rally, below.
