Congratulations to Charles Moody, a longtime member of the Long Island Regional Self-Advocacy Association of New York State (SANYS) Group, who was recently named SANYS Self-Advocate of the Year. “I feel real good about getting the award. I couldn’t feel any better,” said Charles. “I worked so hard to get rid of the ‘R’ word and closing down the institutions. I pray that never happens again.” Charles accepted the award at the SANYS Statewide Conference in Albany, New York on Oct. 10. Charles was among the first graduates of the Children’s Education Center/Silver School and has been a member of the Long Island Regional SANYS Group for three decades.
