This specialized seminar will provide families and caregivers with a framework of what Dementia, Alzheimer’s Disease and cognitive/behavioral changes look like in adults with I/DD as they age. We will cover important areas such as Assessment and Treatment Options, Healthcare Planning, Support Approaches and current research initiatives.

Learning Objectives:

  • Learn diagnostic criteria and assessment options when cognitive changes are suspected.
  • Learn Supportive Approaches for day-to-day use in different environments
  • Access Caregiver Resources
  • Learn about current and projected research in the area of Dementia and Alzheimer’s Disease

    Presenters: 

    Erin Marciante is a dedicated Senior Behavior Intervention Specialist with over 15 years of experience serving adults with I/DD in residential and day programs at AHRC Nassau. Erin holds a Master’s degree of Gerontology from Hofstra University. In her role, Erin provides comprehensive behavioral supports to individuals with developmental, intellectual and behavioral needs, using evidence-based strategies to enhance quality of life and promote positive outcomes.

    Prior to joining AHRC Nassau, Erin spent 13 years at Park Jewish Institute’s Granite Alzheimer’s Center, where she served as Therapeutic Recreation Coordinator. In that position, she developed and implemented therapeutic and engaging recreational programs tailored to individuals living with Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias.

    Erin’s long-standing commitment to person-centered care and her extensive experience in behavior support and therapeutic programming reflect her passion for improving the lives of the people and families she serves.

    Julie Cannet is an Assistant Director for Psychology Services at AHRC Nassau. She oversees behavioral and psychology support services for men and women with intellectual and developmental disabilities within their residences and day programs. Julie has worked in the field of IDD for more than 26 years in a variety of roles and agencies. She is a compassionate  professional who provides person-centered supports to adults aged 21 to 90+ years. Julie holds a Master’s Degree in Psychology and Education from Teacher’s College, Columbia University and is a Board Certified Behavior Analyst® as well as a Licensed Behavior Analyst.
