The idea for an Evers St. Halloween party on Friday Oct. 24 came from Kerri Ann O’Brien, Joann Cieslik, Ann Berris, and Sharon Breen, who wanted to celebrate at home with their friends.
The Evers Street team eagerly rose to the occasion. Elizabeth Angerville, House Manager; Linda Anacrean, Assistant Manager; Direct Support Professionals (DSPs) Barbara Eckert, Aneesah Ahmed, Charlotte “Jade” Byrne, and Sandra Price, helped organized an exciting evening filled with music and plenty of activities.
Ann shared that everyone helped come up with the idea for the party. “It was all of ours,” she said, adding that the best part was “dancing and eating. We chose the music and I like it. I like this Halloween party.”
Ann, who dressed in a whimsical fairy costume, spent most of the night chatting with Donna Nowakoski, her friend from East Meadow Art Gallery. Donna danced, enjoyed goodies, and mingled. The pair also discussed their upcoming plans for Halloween week, like the party at the East Meadow Art Gallery.
“They know each other from different holiday events, bowling,” Elizabeth said. “They created the invitation, I printed them out, and they came back empty handed.”
It was a lively event, with friends showing up ready to celebrate. Guests included people who live at Livingston Steet, Lee Street, Hicks Place, Floral Avenue, Bellmore Avenue, and Lakeview Road residences.
Across the room, Jade led the partygoers through “Macarena” and “Cupid Shuffle” dance moves. She was also an essential contributor to the decorations.
Jade joined the team in March and loves being a DSP. She values “the level of comfort in the house and the respect everyone has for one another. The ladies all get along and they’re caring. You walk in and you can see the energy in here is great.”
Elizabeth took on the role of DJ and team members took turns serving food, packing goodie bags, and taking care of any needs that came up.
Before heading home, the guests took last-minute photos promising to see each other soon. Everyone ended the night feeling happy and energized for more Halloween festivities.
